About Us

Maine Artificial Limb & Orthotics has been a privately owned practice for over 50 years. Our focus has always been helping those with limb loss, deformities or neurological deficits experience life to the fullest. We want to get our patients back on their feet, to work, to school or home, and to the many activities, that give them pleasure. Our satisfaction lies in customizing prostheses or orthoses, which is the most comfortable fit possible and allow the individual to do what they want, whether it is running a machine, a company, or a marathon.

Independence, mobility, and self-esteem are what we want to give back to our patients. At Maine Artificial Limb and Orthotics, we are proud to be part of the rehabilitative team. We want our patients to enjoy the best life possible, which is why we put patient care first and foremost.

All patients are seen by ABC (American Board of Certification) practitioners, who are individually certified in prosthetics (CP), or orthotics (CO) or both (CPO) with years of education and training in making artificial limbs and orthotics. Our office offers on-site full range computer imaging and mold carving capabilities. Most devices are made on site for prompt fabrication and delivery of patient care. Our staff is highly experienced and qualified in providing the simplest to the highly advanced prosthetic and orthotic systems available today.

Our facility includes a patient center for diagnostic, prosthetic and orthotic treatment, and a laboratory for service for production of all types of prostheses and orthoses. We take the time to ensure that patients receive the most comfortable possible fitting device, which helps speed recovery and enables patients to enjoy a full, more active life.

Prosthetics and orthotics is a fast changing profession. We keep pace with every technological advancement in order to offer the latest enhancements in comfort, function and appearance.

We also help patients meet their personal goals, including some they may have abandoned. If a patient wants to walk, we will help free them from their wheelchair. If a patient loves to swim, we will adapt a prosthesis for that purpose. If a patient is anxious to ski, we will make adaptations attempting to make it possible.

For over 50 years, our commitment is to the entire patient - to restoring a sense of wholeness. We see our work as key to recovering much more than good health. As part of the medical community, we are helping to heal some very important lives.

People come to Maine Artificial Limb & Orthotics as patients, but soon become a part of our family. Getting to know our patients and responding to their concerns is our way of ensuring that they get the care they need.
